Even though it was in semi-darkness, Leah could see straight through to some French doors at the back, the only illumination coming from the overhead light of the stove as it glinted on steel toward the center of the room.<\/p>\n<p>Snapping her gaze to Daisy, Leah\u2019s opinions on personal tastes flew to the wayside. The little girl\u2019s eyes were wide as she chewed her bottom lip. Leah frowned. \u201cAre you all right, sweetheart? Do you want me to knock?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daisy nodded and raised her arms toward Leah as though asking to be picked up. \u201cYes, please. Daddy might be mad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, Daddy won\u2019t be mad.\u201d Leah bent down and picked her up, hitching her onto her hip as Daisy\u2019s arms wound around her shoulders. \u201cIf Daddy\u2019s mad, I\u2019ll show him how to calm himself down real quick. Don\u2019t you worry about that.\u201d Leah lifted the brass knocker and let it fall a little harder than necessary.<\/p>\n<p>No answer.<\/p>\n<p>Narrowing her eyes, she knocked again.<\/p>\n<p>She was readying to knock a third time when the door swung open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told you to get the hell out of here and not come back.\u201d The man\u2019s dark hair sprouted from every angle, his raging eyes bulging and his right hand swathed in a blue and white\u00ad\u00ad\u2013\u2013and bloodied\u2013\u2013dishtowel. His gaze held Leah\u2019s for a split-second before he snapped his attention to Daisy. \u201cMy God, Daisy. What are you\u2026\u201d He cupped Daisy under her armpits, wincing slightly as he pulled her from Leah\u2019s arms to hold her close. Jennifer offers some fabulous insight into her journey and how success happened for her despite the doubts, the fear and bouts of wanting to hide away. Peppered with knowledge from other bestselling authors, this book is a must read.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">On Writing by Stephen King<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is, and always will be, only one Stephen King. The master storyteller not only shares his own experiences and journey in the pages of this writer\u2019s bible, but also gives great tips on plotting, dialogue and trusting your instinct. A truly useful and inspirational book.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Goal, Motivation &amp; Conflict by Debra Dixon<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I believe you\u2019d be hard pushed not to find a novelist who doesn\u2019t have a copy of this book on their shelves or at least read it at some point during their career. Ms. Dixon breaks down the vital ingredients to creating great goals, motivations and conflicts for your characters and how to apply them in the telling of your unique story. GMC is the hardest thing, in my opinion, to crack as a writer but this book will definitely help break the concept down.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Creating Character Arcs by K M Weiland<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I read this book while tackling the final draft of my twenty-first novel \u2013 even with all the experience I have, my work in progress was missing something I couldn\u2019t pinpoint. I needed help. As often happens, I was trawling through the internet and fate intervened when this book flashed up. I downloaded it and was entirely engrossed within the first few pages. A wonderful addition to any writer\u2019s bookshelf for really nailing your characters and their journeys.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>The Positive Trait Thesaurus\/The Negative Trait Thesaurus<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These two books are handy volumes to have nearby when you first start creating your characters and thinking about the type of hero and heroine you need to make that plot idea come alive on the page.
