Bronco now stood squinting in the late afternoon sun, knocking at a door with no bell,\u00a0 and\u00a0 waiting\u00a0 for\u00a0 a\u00a0 response.\u00a0 Dogs\u00a0 barked\u00a0 and a window\u00a0 curtain\u00a0 twitched.\u00a0 Good.\u00a0 Someone\u00a0 was home. He adjusted his pack, leaned his head back, closed his eyes, and said, \u201cAny time now.\u201d As the words slid out of\u00a0 his\u00a0 mouth,\u00a0 he\u00a0 heard\u00a0 the\u00a0 unmistakable\u00a0 sound\u00a0 of a shotgun being pumped.<\/p>\n

Uh. Oh.<\/p>\n

He raised his hands. \u201cDon\u2019t shoot. I\u2019m unarmed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turning slowly to face his fate, his jaw fell open, and his\u00a0 heart\u00a0 rate\u00a0 kicked\u00a0 up\u00a0 a\u00a0 notch\u00a0 from\u00a0 being\u00a0 on\u00a0 thewrong end of a shotgun or from the weapon holder\u2019s looks, he wasn\u2019t sure. A raven haired Amazon in a tank top,\u00a0 jeans,\u00a0 and\u00a0 metal\u00a0 tipped\u00a0 cowboy\u00a0 boots\u00a0 held\u00a0 the Mossberg 500 in a perfect military stance. Long strands of hair blew across her face in the hot breeze. A large purple\u00a0 bruise\u00a0 bloomed\u00a0 on\u00a0 her left cheek. She squinted her dark brown eyes and gave him a laser-beam once over from his dusty black boots to his sweat soaked do-rag.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho are you, and what do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n

If he hadn\u2019t been so intent on not getting killed, he would\u00a0 have\u00a0 spent\u00a0 more\u00a0 time\u00a0 staring\u00a0 at\u00a0 those\u00a0 full, luscious,\u00a0 kissable\u00a0 lips\u00a0 and\u00a0 thinking\u00a0 about\u00a0 how\u00a0 she would taste. As it was, he guessed he had less than a minute to respond before getting blasted into the next county.<\/p>\n
